I can certainly handle it, but we'll need to adjust the project fee." That's not rude. It's business. A good client may understand immediately. If they don't, at least you've made the boundary clear. What I Would Focus on If I Were Starting Again If I were starting from zero today, I wouldn't obsess over getting dozens of clients. I'd focus on finding a few good ones. I'd learn what they needed. I'd deliver on time. I'd communicate clearly. I'd keep track of their preferences. I'd make their work easier. And I'd try to become the writer they don't have to worry about. That's a much better position than constantly hunting for the next project. You want a client to think: "Let's just give this to him. He knows what we need." That's trust. And trust is difficult to build. Once you've built it, don't take it for granted. Final Thoughts Getting your first freelance writing client feels exciting. Getting your first repeat client feels different. There's a little more confidence behind it. Someone has already seen your work and decided they want it again. That's a good sign.
